Volkswagen to replace famous Golf
2001-06-20 - By Philip Byrne

Volkswagen to replace famous Golf Volkswagen are to replace their famous Golf with a new radical look. (Not dissimilar to the new Alfa 147)

Over the years the Golf has become classier, heavier and ultimately, less fun. The all new model plans to change all this.

Firstly, the new look of the Golf mark V is a million miles away from the current staid, unexciting design.

As well as some major cosmetic changes, the new Golf will also receive new engines, a new platform, revised interiors and new suspensions, gearboxes and brakes to make the driving experience more stimulating. The car will shed some weight, by using lighter components giving it better acceleration, braking and fuel consumption.

The current car has been criticised for its rather uninspiring driving experience. The new car hopes to change all this. The chassis has been completely revised, along with the suspension and gearbox. Six speed manual gearboxes will be used more frequently throughout the range.

The interior will also be heavily revised, with more space, even better build quality and even more class. Safety will be catered for as there will be six airbags to protect passengers. ABS, EBD and ESP will all be standard throughout the range. Expect equipment upgrades too.

The new model is due to be launched late 2002/early 2003, and prices should be competitive.

Now if they could only get the driving experience to match the looks...
