All new 2002 Toyota Corolla The Toyota Corolla is due for replacement next year.

The new model design is being kept a heavily guarded secret, but eForecourt can bring you current information from the new Japanese saloon version which, like the current Corolla saloon, is manufactured in Japan.

The images shown are for the Japanese version, but expect the saloon to be very similar for the Irish market, albeit with the suspension altered to improve handling and ride on Irish roads.

Engines currently being offered are 1.3 (88BHP), 1.5 (110BHP) and 1.8 (136BHP) VVT-i petrol’s, along with a 2.2 diesel (79BHP, 147 N.m).

All new 2002 Toyota CorollaThe interior too has been heavily revised. Unlike the current saloon, the new car will offer owners the flexibility of a 60:40 folding rear seat, an essential feature for a saloon to maximise luggage area.

It has been extensively insulated from vibration and wind noise by efficient use of insulating materials.

The extended wheelbase of 2,600mm helps improve on leg and knee room.

Safety devices include ABS with EBD, brake assist, clutch start system (the engine starts only when the clutch pedal is depressed), tyre inflation alarm indicator, large-sized multiple reflector halogen headlights, and outside air thermometer, a more ridged body which has been passed GOA tests (Global Outstanding Assessment), head injury relief structure, and WIL concept seat (front seat) to reduce neck injury.
