Porsche, having given us the higher-performance Boxster S last year, is due to touch up the Boxster for 2002.

It'll take the Boxster's appearance a little further away from the 911 Carrera, also due for a re-style soon.Note the larger grille in the more aggressive fascia.

Though you can't see it in this picture, there's a different type of automatically retracting rear wing.

2002 Porsche Boxster Turbo

2002 Porsche Boxster / Turbo, Porsche 911 CarreraThe most striking difference with the new Boxster Turbo is the enormous air intakes for the larger radiators in the airdam. The Boxster S uses a 3.2 litre 252bhp version of the 911's flat Six. Purportedly, the Boxster Turbo will add twin turbos to a 2.7 litre powerplant.

So, with the 3.4 litre 911 engine rated at 296bhp, we assume the Boxster Turbo's output to be between that and the 911 Turbo's 420bhp, probably around 325bhp.

Like the Boxster S, the Turbo should share the 911's larger wheels and brakes. The ceramic-matrix brakes, soon to be available as an option on the 911 Turbo and 911, will probably be available as well.

2002 Porsche Boxster / Turbo, Porsche 911 CarreraThe 911 Carrera is due a facelift in 2002, and here's the first good shot of the front end of the 2002 911. Headlights are much in the style of the Turbo, and the wheels are slightly smaller versions of the Turbo wheels.

The dashboard has been revamped, and displacement increased from 3.4 to 3.6 litres. Horsepower should be up proportionately, aided by an improved variable valve timing system. The new Carrera will be followed in a year or so by the all-wheel-drive S4.
