Six driver set for Fiat Punto Abarth Cup title showdown Competitors in the exciting new Fiat Punto Abarth Cup will face one of their toughest challenges to-date when British Touring Car star Phil Bennett makes a guest appearance in the series' celebrity car at Mondello Park this Sunday (6th Oct).

Six driver set for Fiat Punto Abarth Cup title showdownBennett, a race winner in the high profile British Touring Car Championship, is relishing the thought of returning to the Co. Kildare circuit where he raced earlier this year with his regular factory Proton team.

'I am really looking forward to having a go in one of these new Fiat Punto Abarths. The cars look like they have a really high standard of preparation. Lets hope I can do it justice', said the Manchester driver whose commitments will prevent him from testing the 160bhp racer prior to qualifying on Sunday morning.

The final two rounds of the 2002 series, Sunday's action sees six drivers in with a chance of becoming the inaugural Fiat Punto Abarth Cup Champion. Armagh's Joey Freeburn must be favourite for the title with two wins to his credit but with 34 points on offer it is still all to play for.

11 points adrift in second place young gun Richie Faulkner (Killiney) provides the biggest threat despite having not claimed a top spot on the podium to-date, a fact the Murray Motorsport driver will be aiming to rectify on Sunday. Race winners Brian Hade and Liam Denning, both from Rathfarham, also provide strong challenges for the title with Gordon Kellett (Castleknock) and Quentin Smith (Rathfarnham) ready in the wings to claim the crown should the leading four hit trouble.

With 18 cars set to take to the grid action in the Fiat Punto Abarth Cup on Sunday is again set to be close and exciting. Race 1, the Sprint Race, is schedule for 13:45 with the Feature Race set to roll at 15:15.
