2002-11-26 - By Philip Byrne
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company (GM Daewoo) will demonstrate its resurgence in a major way at the 2002 Seoul Motor Show. It is the first motor show appearance by the company since its launch in late October.
The theme of GM Daewoo’s stand, Driving Innovation, underlines the strong intent of the company to become a global industry leader. The 1,768-square-meter stand features 17 vehicles, including six that will be seen for the first time by the public. Special highlights will be the all-new Nubira/Lacetti intermediate saloon and two futuristic concept cars.
“We want to show the public that the heartbeat of GM Daewoo is strong and growing stronger. There’s a lot of excitement at GM Daewoo. We want the public to experience that excitement,” said Nick Reilly, GM Daewoo President and CEO.
GM Daewoo’s first new model, the Lacetti, is taking center stage on the GM Daewoo stand. It goes on sale in Korea Thursday November 21. The Pininfarina designed Lacetti will be introduced in Europe as the new Nubira in the course of 2003.
Along with the Nubira/Lacetti, GM Daewoo is also exhibiting 15 production cars, including the Matiz, Kalos and the Tacuma. These models represent the present and near future of GM Daewoo.
Two concept cars represent GM Daewoo’s vision of the future. The “Oto” is a unique combination of a sports coupe and a sport utility vehicle (SUV). The “Flex” is a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that is equipped with the latest information technology systems.
To GM Daewoo the future is “Oto” matic
GM Daewoo introduces its vision of the lifestyle vehicle of the future to visitors of the Seoul Motor Show. Called Oto, the crossover all-terrain vehicle of the future combines the exciting driving performance of a sports car with the strong body structure of an SUV to deliver smooth on-road handling as well as powerful off-road performance.
Using the latest information technology system, Oto provides general traffic information on the instrument panel to make driving easier and safer.
Contemplating the diversity of future lifestyles, Oto takes versatility and comfort to a new level. The interior is designed for maximum flexibility. In addition to its versatile seating passengers can optimize the space by folding in armrests and other convenience features when not in use.
In addition, operations such as starting the engine, opening and closing doors, and operating Audio Visual systems and a pop-up wide screen can all be activated with a simple single remote control.
The wedge-shaped exterior is aerodynamically designed. Sophisticated structures maximize overall safety. A new vertical radiator grille gives it a proud and stately look.
Thanks to GM Daewoo’s transversely mounted in-line 6-cylinder engine, the Oto is highly efficient, quiet and a proud amalgam of an SUV and saloon.
