Devaney takes victory at the Norisring Motorsport Ireland 'Young Racing Driver of the Year' Michael Devaney from Rathfarnham, Dublin, scored his first win of the season at the weekend when he won the ninth round of the German Formula BMW Championship at the prestigious Norisring street circuit in East Germany.

Devaney takes victory at the NorisringDriving for reigning champions Team Rosberg, the 18-year-old drove a copybook race around the 2.3Km circuit which attracted a record 128,000 spectators.

Watched by BMW Motorsport Directors Mario Theissen and Gerhard Berger, Michael started from pole position and needed just two laps to build up a comfortable lead to win ahead of championship leader Maximilian Gotz.

Said Devaney :
"My start was the basis for my victory. I was pushing as hard as I could at the beginning and that gave me the chance to control the race later. It is good to be back on the top of the podium again particular for Team Rosberg who have been working really hard on both the car and myself. It is nice to be able to repay their hard work with a win at the most prestigious race on the calendar. Hopefully now we can make podium finishes the norm."

Sunday's race proved less successful for the former Irish Kart Champion. Starting on the third row of the grid, again ahead of series leader Gotz, Michael climbed to second and was challenging eventual race winner Sebastian Vettel for the lead when his car made contact with the wall causing immediate retirement.

Also backed by Movie Magic and Rugbytech, Michael's next outing is at this weekend's European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring where the Irish ace will be looking to impress Formula 1's top brass. Having finished second on his last visit to the GP circuit he is confident he can challenge for his second Formula BMW victory of the season.
