2003-09-17 - By Philip Byrne

The original and best just got better Renault, the inventors of the MPV have have just announced prices and specification details for the New Renault Scénic II, available to order in Ireland from September 12th.

The original and best just got betterRenault is categorically the leading manufacturer for compact-MPVs with over 2 million Scenic cars sold since 1996,with the Scénic II it intends to repeat this success with the unique offer of two sizes of Scénic – a longer seven seater Grand Scénic joins the range next year.

Bringing stand-out style to the class, technology never before seen in the sector, and high levels of driving pleasure, New Scenic’s class-leading equipment levels raises the bar. Prices for the New Scénic start at €22,200.

The most advanced technology in the compact-MPV class

A totally new innovation for the compact-MPV sector is the introduction of the automatic parking brake freeing up space between the front seats usually taken up by a traditional handbrake. All New Scénics – except the entry-level Authentique - benefit from the electronic parking brake, which disengages automatically once the system senses the car developing enough torque to pull away. The brake also automatically engages when the engine is switched off. However the brake can be engaged manually by pulling a lever set into the dash for when the car is stopped a traffic lights or is making a hill start, for example. Bringing new thinking and new technology to the sector other features include sliding centre console unit, automatic headlamps, automatic windscreen wipers, integrated F1-style fuel filler cap and ESP with ASR traction control and CSV understeer control

The new shape of compact-MPVs

New Scénic is the latest interpretation of Renault’s stunning new design philosophy, most recently seen on the New Mégane Hatch and Sport Coupe and Espace. The New Scénic’s dynamic, stylish silhouette, with its powerful, expressive design makes this car one that its owner will be proud to buy, own and drive.

New Scénic also benefits from the latest developments in the area of anti-intrusion and anti-theft protection. The driver’s door lock incorporates a freely rotating barrel protected by a shield. Casings protect all the mechanisms and operation takes place by cables, which make all attempts at "hooking" more difficult. The engine management unit beneath the bonnet is also protected. Unlike conventional immobilise systems, the Renault Card and its sensors use a procedure of mutual interrogation. The identification code contained in the card transponder uses a rolling code and the electrical control of the latch is coded. The steering column is fitted with an anti-theft unit strengthened against the use of force.

Conclusion

According to Mr Bill Cullen Chairman Renault Ireland “The new Renault Scénic continues on from where the first generation Mégane Scénic left off in addressing the needs of its buyers, yet raising the bar in terms of desirability, technology, driveability and passenger comfort, flexibility, and running costs”.

Launched on 12th September 2003 and available to order, the New Scénic will once again be the reference point for all other competitors and the choice of compact-MPV buyers who realise that the company who made the original and the best have made the New Scénic even better.
