Alfa vs Yahama at the Bumble Gum Club charity event
2003-10-22 - By Philip Byrne

Alfa vs Yahama at the Bumble Gum Club charity event A rather unusual race which took place at Mondello Park between Team Alfa Romeo Ireland driver Niki Meredith (Clondalkin) and Irish Super Bike Championship rider James McCall (Wicklow).

Alfa vs Yahama at the Bumble Gum Club charity eventThe event was part of the bike rideout in aid of the Bumble Gum Club, a charity which looks after children with life threatening illnesses, with the race between the Alfa 147 GTA Challenge car and the Yahama R1 run over five laps of the county Kildare circuit.

Leading till the last corner, the 220bhp Alfa was unable to match the faster accelerating 170Bhp Yamaha on the final run to the chequered flag.

Four wheels may have lost on the day but the children's charity was the real winner as the event helped raise over €40,000 for the Bumble Gum Club.
