Motorsport Ireland announces training courses for Marshalls

The vital role played by Rally Marshals in promoting the highest safety standards is being highlighted by Motorsport Ireland with the introduction of a series of training courses for Rally Marshals. The courses which have
been devised by Motorsport Ireland will begin in January 2005.
Dates and venues for the courses are being finalised at present and will be published shortly both on the Motorsport Ireland website (www.motorsportireland.com) and also in the monthly bulletin. Affiliated rally clubs will also be advertising the courses.
Speaking about the initiative John Naylor, Chairman, Motorsport Ireland, said that the importance of safety in all forms of motorsport cannot be over emphasised. “It is vital to the future of our sport that we apply the most stringent of safety standards. In that context Rally Marshals have a vital role to play and we want to ensure that they are given every assistance in performing to the highest standards.”
By way of encouraging participation in the courses Motorsport Ireland has devised a promotion whereby the winner gets to go to the Swedish Round of the World Rally Championships in 2006.
On completion of the course each marshal will receive an individually numbered hi-visibility vest and a record card, which the marshal should have signed by their stage commander.
Once the marshal has obtained five signatures on their record card he/she must return the record card to Motorsport Ireland where they will be entered into a draw, which will take place in November 2005, for a trip for two to the Swedish round of the World Rally Championship in 2006.
In addition all marshals will automatically receive a special Motorsport Ireland marshal’s jacket when they submit their signed record card to Motorsport Ireland.
That’s not all. There will also be five runner-up prizes of vouchers for Rally School Ireland.
