Golf GTi Arrives Pre-Christmas

Volkswagen have announced that pre-launch versions of their sporty new Golf GTi will be seen in dealer showrooms before Christmas with February fixed as the date for volume introduction.
 A true thoroughbred in the almost 30 years tradition of previous Golf GTi models, the new version is recognisable by low slung suspension and black honeycomb-patterned grille framed with distinctive red Golf GTi trim.
Two models make up the new GTi range, both available in 3-door and 5-door versions and both powered by a 2-litre, 200 bhp engine with FSI fuel injection. Both have a claimed top speed of 145 mph.
First is a turbo-powered unit with 6-speed manual transmission priced at EUR34,915 ex works (3-door) and EUR35,935 ex works (5-door) whose vital statistics include a 0-62 mph figure of 7.2 seconds.
The second version, equipped with Volkswagen's acclaimed 6-speed automatic DSG gearbox, is priced at EUR36,445 ex works (3-door) and EUR37,465 ex works (5-door) with an even faster 0-62 mph figure of 6.9 seconds.
Features common to both models include advanced multi-link rear suspension, standard 17² alloy wheels and sporty twin exhausts.
